Harrisburg wins ESD meet Saturday

YANKTON — Propelled by the top gymnast in the all-around, Harrisburg edged Mitchell to win the Eastern South Dakota Conference title on Saturday.
Harrisburg had a winning total of 152.350, while Mitchell finished at 150.700. Watertown was third at 143.225, followed by Pierre at 130.875 and Brookings at 138.275.
Huron finished eighth at 126.100.
Katelyn Maeschen won the all-around title for Harrisburg with 38.450, while Mitchell teammates Bentley Bates and Olivia Prunty were second and third, respectively, with scores of 38.000 and 37.850.
Maeschen won on the beam with a 9.650 and the floor exercise with a 9.725.
Bates won the bars with a 9.875, while Prunty won the vaul with a 9.675.
Ellie Puterbaugh turned in an 8.525 on the vault to lead Huron and had the team’s top score on the beam with 8.125. Alivia Cunard had an 8.475 on the vault, while Maiya Hein and Maria Wilson turned in scores of 7.500 on the bars.
Huron will compete in the Class AA State Qualifier at 10 a.m. Saturday in Watertown.
