Harrisburg wins dance, Sioux Valley claims cheer title at Huron Invitational

HURON — The Harrisburg Tigers claimed first place in both dance disciplines in which it competed Tuesday, en route to winning the overall championship at the Huron Invitational Cheer and Dance competition, at Huron Arena.

And the Sioux Valley Cossack cheer team edged Brookings by a point-and-a-half to win the Cheer title.

The Cossack cheerleaders had the top score from all three judges and no deductions on the way to a team total of 264 points, to the 262.5 for Brookings. Mitchell was third, Watertown took fourth and Pierre claimed fifth place in the cheer race.

Harrisburg amassed 280 points in the Hip Hop dance competition, 19 points ahead of runner-up S.F. Washington, with Aberdeen Central taking third in Hip Hop.

The Tigers gathered 280.5 points in Jazz, taking a 10-point win over Yankton in the discipline, while Watertown was third and Huron finished fourth.

Harrisburg’s average of 280.25 was more than seven points better than Yankton’s runner up score. Washington was third and Aberdeen Central finished fourth.

The Pom competition was very one-sided, as Yankton rolled up 275.5 points, 22 points better than S.F. Washington.

Huron finished seventh in Hip Hop and was ninth overall in Dance, while the Tiger Cheer team finished in 11th place on the day.

The Huron teams return to action on Saturday, traveling to Brookings for the Brookings Cheer and Dance Invitational.
