Heartland Cuisine - 5K Colorful Fun Run

Add some color to your world at the upcoming Holy Trinity 5K Colorful Fun Run or Walk planned Saturday at Ravine Lake.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., with the race to start at 8 a.m. Ages 12 and up are $25, and kids are free.

You can also register at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church office, 425 21st St. S.W., or by calling 605-352-2203.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

The event is a fundraiser for Holy Trinity Catholic School.

Oreo Fruit Salad
12 ounces whipped topping
1 package instant vanilla pudding
1 cup milk
1 can of fruit cocktail
1 ½ cup mini marshmallows
1 package chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed

Mix pudding and milk together until thick. Stir in whipped topping.

Stir in fruit and marshmallows. Just before serving, stir in crushed cookies

Lemon Bread
1 package lemon cake mix
1 cup water
1/3 cup oil
1 package lemon instant pudding

4 beaten eggs
3 Tablespoons poppy seeds

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease two loaf pans. In mixing bowl combine all of the ingredients and mix well. Pour into the two bread pans and bake 40 minutes. Test for doneness by inserting a toothpick in center. If it comes out clean, it is done.

Pink Party Salad
20-ounce can crushed pineapple, drained
21-ounce can cherry pie filling
6-ounce package cherry gelatin, dissolved in 2 cups hot water
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
8 ounces whipped topping

In a large bowl, mix cream cheese, gelatin, pineapple, and pie filling until well blended. Chill slightly in the refrigerator then fold in whipped topping. Pour into serving dish. Refrigerate until set, about 2 hours.

Yields 6-8 servings

Chocolate-Oatmeal Bars
¾ cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
½ teaspoon salt
1 ½ cup flour
1 ¼ cup oatmeal
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9-by-13-inch pan. In a medium mixing bowl combine butter, brown sugar, salt, flour and oatmeal. Reserve 1/3 of mixture and set aside. Press the remaining 2/3 of mixture into pan. Melt together chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk. Stir in nuts. Spread over oatmeal mixture. Sprinkle reserved 1/3 mixture of the chocolate on top. Bake for 30-35 minutes.

Summer Ham Salad
7-ounce box ring macaroni, cook,
rinse and drain
½ cup diced celery
½ cup diced onion
1 cup diced cucumber, unpeeled
1 cup shredded carrots
1 can Spam, cubed

Mix together.

Dressing:
½ cup Miracle Whip salad dressing
½ cup sugar
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ cup vinegar

Mix and pour over above ingredients.
