Huron boys earn first win

HURON — The Huron boys’ soccer team scored just one goal on Friday, but it was enough to secure its first win of the season.

Behind a shutout in the net by goalkeeper Micah Larson, the Tigers recorded a 1-0 victory against Rapid City Central at Tiger Stadium.

“We played a good 80-minute game tonight. We had many opportunities to score but just couldn’t finish,” Huron coach Leah Branaugh said. “The boys did a nice job moving the ball around.

“They were excited to get the first win of the season under their belts,” she said. “All the varsity players got playing time tonight and did a nice job in their respective positions.”

Just eight minutes into the game, Aung Myit scored the lone goal on an unassisted shot for the Tigers.

Larson faced five shots in the net for Huron and turned away all five of them.

Rapid City Central emerged with a 5-1 victory in the junior varsity boys’ game.

K Tawn Gaw had the goal for Huron.

Jaxon Andru had five saves in the net for the Tigers.

The varsity improved to 1-1 and will host Rapid City Stevens at noon today at Tiger Stadium.

Girls
Rapid City Central cruised to a 10-0 victory against Huron in the varsity girls’ game.

Baw Law Eh had 14 saves in the net for the Tigers, who are now 0-2.

The Cobblers emerged with a 9-0 victory in the JV girls’ game.

Cadence Kogel tallied five saves in the opening half for Huron, while Naw Soe had seven saves in the second half.

The Huron girls’ will face Rapid City Stevens at 10:30 a.m., today at Tiger Stadium.
