Iroquois Sports Day welcomes big crowds

Posted

IROQUOIS — Great events and great weather brought big crowds to Iroquois Sports Day weekend this year.

Bleachers were full, lawn chairs were in abundance, and spectators were standing to watch the riders versus the bulls on Friday night. The Professional Bull Riders Circuit Bull Bash was partnered with stock contractor, Weischedel Bucking Bulls.

The winner of the main event was Ryder Rowland of Ree Heights.

Emerson Sine of Sisseton was the winner of the Junior bull ride.

Many youngsters signed up for a chance to ride the sheep. Barrett Schaefer of Colman was the winner of the mutton busting contest.

Winners of Saturday’s parade were the Iroquois Booster Club’s “Sowing Spirits, Reaping Rewards” float with first place, Trinity United Methodist Church won second place, and the Lynch family float took third.

A full slate of teams participated in the bean bag and mud volleyball tournaments, while the kids had fun with the water bouncy house and dunk tank. Great Plains Zoo of Sioux Falls brought exotic animals and the balloon guy kept the children entertained.

Many beautiful and classic cars were registered for the car show on main street.

Bob Blue was the winner of the 50/50 drawing on Saturday. The evening ended with a fireworks show at Woodall City Park.

The many event sponsors and hardworking volunteers putting in countless hours made this year’s Sport Day one to be remembered.
