Middle school volleyball teams open season

HURON — The Huron Tigers seventh-and-eighth-grade volleyball teams opened their season Thursday afternoon, hosting the Yankton Gazelles at Huron Middle School.

8th grade
Huron’s “A” team won in a three-setter, but both the “B” and “C” games were claimed by Yankton.

The Tigers won the “A” game, dropping the first set 16-25, but holding on for a 25-22 win in the second set, then closing the match with a 15-13 win in the third set.

Arian Pfitzer had seven kills and two blocks for the Tigers, who also got five kills and nine set assists from Ramsey Rozelle. Talley Hins had seven assists and three aces for Huron, while both Autumn Seidschlag and Pfitzer had a trio of aces as well.

Yankton took the “B” match 25-13, 25-6. Huron was led by Jesse Mattke and Zami Severence with a kill each, while Andrea Estrada had two aces.

The “C” match went to the Gazelles, 25-10, 25-7. Huron’s Hossannah Dah and Nevaeh Garcia each had an ace in the match.

7th grade

The seventh-grade team had a rough opening day, dropping the “A” match 17-25, 25-21 and 15-12; the “B” squad lost 25-17 and 25-18 and the “C” team fell 25-19 and 25-15.

Huron is back in action Thursday, hosting Mitchell at HMS.
