Huron and area teams participate in Mitchell cheer and dance competition

MITCHELL — The Dakota Valley Black Panthers rode a win in Jazz and a second place in Pom to take the team Dance title Thursday, at the Mitchell Invitational Cheer and Dance competition at the Corn Palace.
Dakota Valley ended with 278 points in Jazz, edging Brandon Valley by two-and-a-half points. In Pom, Brandon Valley snuck past the Black Panthers by a slim half-point 280-279.5 and Harrisburg won the Hip Hop portion of the competition with 271 points.
Overall, Dakota Valley’s 278.75 average was just enough to take the title over Brandon Valley by a single point.
The Huron Tigers finished ninth in Hip Hop with 211.5 points and eighth in Jazz with 199.2, to end with an average of 205.5, good for 15th in the large field.
Harrisburg got a measure of revenge in the Cheer portion of the day, rolling to a 290-266.5 over O’Gorman.
Wolsey-Wessington finished ninth in the team competition with 200 points and Huron was 14th with 170.5.
