WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Vivian Mae Stolen, age 89, of Wessington Springs, died Friday, September 13, 2024, at Weskota Manor.

Her memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Inurnment will follow at Salem Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Saturday.

Vivian Mae Syvertson was born on June 7, 1935, in North Dakota, to Gabriel and Martha (Olson) Syvertson. She had one older brother, Donald. Their family lived on a farm eight miles northeast of McHenry, N.D. She attended a one room rural school. The Syvertson family moved to Huron in 1947, and Vivian graduated from Huron High School in 1952.

She took a business course and worked at the ACS office in Huron. In 1956, she married Irving Stolen and the couple farmed in Jerauld County. Irving died in 2012 and in 2014, she moved to Wessington Springs.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, and lived her life serving others. She loved the Lord and was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, VBS and AWANA. After moving to town, she also volunteered at the Springs Consignment Store.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda (Neal) Bartel of rural Wessington Springs; two sons, Mike (Pam) Stolen of Sioux Falls and Jim (Bonnie) Stolen of Scottsbluff, Neb.; nine grandchildren, Nicole Bartel, Angela Bartel, Joshua (Natalie) Bartel, Tory (Michelle) Stolen, Taylor Stolen, Jordan (Alaynah) Stolen, Brandan (Whitney) Stolen, Dalen Stolen, and Abraham Alfaro; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Sandy Syvertson of Clark.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Irving; one daughter, Pam Stolen; and one brother, Don Syvertson.
